Entre o Campo da Vinha e o Campo de Touros: uma proposta de reabilitação e reutilização do Palacete Vilhena Coutinho

Abstract

O património construído não classificado enfrenta atualmente a problemática da total desconstrução do interior das estruturas arquitetónicas. Hoje em dia multiplicam-se trabalhos de reabilitação em edifícios históricos que arrasam por completo a cultura arquitetónica identitária das construções. Este trabalho visa estudar e valorizar o palacete Vilhena Coutinho, antigo tribunal de Braga, através de um desenho de reabilitação que procure paralisar a desconstrução do testemunho arquitetónico de Carlos Amarante e de Moura Coutinho. O palacete do séc. XVIII foi alvo de várias transformações resultantes das várias sobreposições de usos que lhe foram impostos. Quer a função residencial quer a ocupação de carácter público do tribunal conduziram o palacete Vilhena Coutinho a transformações formais do complexo edificado. Atualmente encontra-se no limiar da salvaguarda arquitetónica, uma vez que foi alvo da total demolição do interior mantendo apenas as duas fachadas como registo da identidade arquitetónica da época de construção. O estado atual do edifício limita os pressupostos da reabilitação, o que leva a um exercício ainda mais complexo, ou seja, realizar um projeto a partir de um ponto que é favorável a uma nova construção em que o tema é reabilitar. Estas circunstâncias orientaram o trabalho para uma reconstrução cronológica do palacete aliado a uma leitura do lugar que permitiu a definição dos novos usos programáticos com soluções resultantes de uma análise atenta não só ao espaço envolvente, mas a toda a evolução desse espaço. Propõe-se novos usos, nomeadamente uma estação de metro, para uma possível linha que ligasse a estação de comboios de Braga à Universidade do Minho e um centro de estudos. Esta nova ligação provoca uma aproximação da Universidade ao centro da cidade, que resultará numa aproximação dos estudantes ao centro histórico e consequente ao centro de estudos. A proposta engloba ainda um espaço intermédio, uma praça exterior que conectará os dois espaços, a estação e o centro de estudos. Esta praça no interior do quarteirão permitirá ainda uma continuidade espacial entre as duas praças adjacentes, o antigo Campo de Touros e o Campo da Vinha.

The unclassified built heritage currently faces the problem of total interior deconstruction of the architectural structures. Nowadays, rehabilitation jobs are being carried out in historic buildings that destroy the architectural identity culture of buildings. This work aims to study and value the Vilhena Coutinho mansion, former court of Braga, through a rehabilitation that seeks to paralyze the deconstruction of the architectural testimony of Carlos Amarante and Moura Coutinho. The palace of the XVIII was the object of several transformations resulting from the various overlapping of uses that imposed on it. Both the residential function and the public occupation of the court led the Vilhena Coutinho mansion to formal transformations of the built complex. It's currently on the threshold of the architectural safeguard, the target of the total demolition of the interior was keeping only the two facades as a record of the architectural identity of the construction period. The current state of the building limits the assumptions of rehabilitation, which leads to an even more complex exercise, that is, carrying out a project from a point that is favorable to a new construction in which the theme is to rehabilitate. These circumstances guided the work to a chronological reconstruction of the mansion allied to a reading of the place that allowed the definition of the new programmatic uses with solutions resulting from an attentive analysis not only to the surrounding space but to the whole evolution of this space. New uses are proposed, namely a metro/tube station, for a possible line linking the Braga train station to the University of Minho and a study center. This new connection brings the University even closer to the city center, which will bring students closer to the historical center and consequent to the study center. The proposal also includes an intermediate space, an outdoor plaza that will connect the two spaces, the station and the study center. This square inside the block will also allow a spatial continuity between the two adjacent squares, the old Field of Bulls and the Vine Field.
