The phenomenon of quiet quitting, a form of silent withdrawal from work, has been the subject of debate in various media, from simple opinion and comment in social media to scientific articles. This trend, amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, raises questions about the way we approach work. Some authors consider quiet quitting to be a response to the search for well-being and work-life balance, while others interpret it as a negative attitude that jeopardises productivity and career development. The debate is relatively recent, and there is a scarcity of empirical studies on the subject. The objective of this study is to gain insight into the prevalence of quiet quitting in the context of portuguese local public administration, where the phenomenon has not yet been identified in the context of management intervention. A quantitative methodological approach was employed to analyse data collected from workers with high education in the municipalities that comprise the Ave Intermunicipal Community. The analysis led to the conclusion that age and health and well-being are predictors of quiet quitting. Furthermore, the manifestation of this attitude in the population studied is still incipient. The findings of this study provide a framework for recommendations for practice and avenues for future research. |
