e Ensino do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico.
The report "The Visual Arts in Preschool and in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education" is the support to the two intervention projects, carried out within the framework of the Practical Curricular Unit of Higher Education (PES I and PES II), in the study plan of the master’s degree in Preschool Education and Teaching of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. These projects took place in two distinct contexts, one of them being a public kindergarten, with a group of heterogeneous children, aged between 3 and 4 years, and a basic school, also public, with a class of the year 2nd year, and the range varies between 7 and 9 years. The project arose in the context of kindergarten, and through the initial observation some weaknesses were identified about environmental issues, creativity, and imagination of children. It was also possible to notice that the children presented a great predisposition to the activities related to the Visual Arts, thus deciding that this area would be at the center of the intervention project, functioning as a motivator and facilitator of the acquisition of skills and knowledge. In the 1st Cycle, it was decided to continue the intervention project of the preschool, starting from the Visual Arts to work as several components of the curriculum, since the students also had a huge interest in the Visual Arts, some facts that refer to imagination, creativity and aesthetic sense being also involved in projects related to sustainability. In both contexts, the starting point was the Visual Arts, aiming to articulate knowledge and to develop a holistic development of children. In addition, an attempt was also made to overcome the reduced importance given to the Visual Arts. In this way, throughout the entire project, the action research methodology allowed to integrate observation and reflection processes in order to analyze and evaluate the pedagogical action. It was verified that the results were achieved through the learning developed, the analysis of the proposed activities and the children's productions. Thus, the importance of creating moments of contact with the Visual Arts, articulating them with the various areas of knowledge/components of the curriculum, thus allowing a development of the creative, expressive, cognitive, personal, and social capacities of children. |
