Estratégias de adaptação dos expatriados brasileiros por iniciativa própria: um estudo qualitativo

Abstract

Expatriação é um conceito que tem vindo a tornar-se cada vez mais conhecido. Este conceito caracteriza aqueles que decidem, por vontade própria, mudar de país com o objetivo de trabalhar ou mudar a sua vida. Com o aumento da globalização, este fenómeno tem-se vindo a intensificar e é nisso que esta investigação se irá focar, nos expatriados brasileiros que por iniciativa própria vieram viver em Portugal. Este estudo tem como objetivo conhecer as estratégias de adaptação dos expatriados brasileiros por iniciativa própria a viver em Portugal, bem como as dificuldades com que se depararam. De forma a melhor entender as perceções dos expatriados em questão, comparei os testemunhos dos mesmos com as percentagens atribuídas pelo website Hofstede Insights, e concluí que maioritariamente, a visão dos brasileiros entrevistados corrobora as percentagens atribuídas às culturas de Portugal e do Brasil. Os resultados alcançados demonstraram que em geral, a adaptação dos expatriados brasileiros por iniciativa própria em Portugal é positiva e eles sentem-se bem acolhidos. Contudo, muitos deles enfrentam dificuldades que se repetem, principalmente aquando da sua entrada no mercado de trabalho e da sua instalação no país.

Expatriation is a concept that has become increasingly well-known. This concept characterises those who decide, on their own initiative, to move to another country in order to work or change their lives. With the increase of the globalization, this phenomenon has been intensifying and this is what this research will focus on, the Brazilian expatriates who came to live in Portugal on their own initiative. This study aims to know the adaptation strategies of Brazilian expatriates who came to live in Portugal on their own initiative, as well as the difficulties they faced in the past. Trying to understand the perceptions of the expatriates, I compared their testimonies with the percentages assigned by the Hofstede Insights website, and I got to the conclusion that the majority of the opinions of the Brazilians interviewed, aligns with the percentages given to the portuguese and brazilian cultures. The results achieved have shown that in general, the adaptation of Brazilian expatriates in Portugal on their own initiative is positive and they feel welcome. However, many of them face difficulties that recur, mainly when entering the labour market and settling in the country.
