O Paço aberto à comunidade: a Casa do Conhecimento da Universidade do Minho como ponte de aproximação

Abstract

O Paço, edifício-sede da Universidade do Minho, localizado precisamente no centro da cidade de Braga, foi, desde o século XIV até ao século XIX, um dos mais importantes pólos sociais e religiosos da cidade, por ser sede da Arquidiocese de Braga. É assim, um marco territorial da ligação entre a Universidade do Minho e a comunidade, pela importância da interação com a sociedade, e a abertura de portas da Reitoria à sociedade propõe-se como um derrubar de ideia de “edifício institucional”. Este trabalho tem sido desenvolvido pelas diferentes Unidades Culturais da Instituição inseridas no Paço, como a Biblioteca e o Arquivo Municipal, na ala barroca do edifício, e pela criação e abertura da Galeria de Exposições e consequente Loja do Paço, na área nascente. Mais recentemente, a Casa do Conhecimento da Universidade do Minho foi inserida no Paço, e propõe-se a dar vida cultural, tornandoo num espaço de aquisição de conhecimento, difusão de ideias e retratos da sociedade. Observar o papel das universidades e a forma como estas comunicam e se envolvem civicamente é auscultar a forma como estas se voltam para o seu exterior, nele intervindo e dele aproveitando recursos existentes para criar um melhor espaço de diálogo e vivência para a comunidade. O envolvimento parte, em muitos casos, da própria utilização de espaços físicos, como campus, bibliotecas, museus que são uma maisvalia para todos: cidadãos dos municípios, alunos, funcionários, professores, turistas e investigadores, tornando-se assim espaços de convivência e de pontes sociais. A Unidade Cultural Casa do Conhecimento da Universidade do Minho, inserida na Rede de Casas do Conhecimento, tem sido uma ponte comunicacional e territorial entre onze espaços municipais, chegando a várias realidades e cruzando pessoas de contextos distintos que discutem ideias e aproximam-se enquanto sociedade. A utilização destas pontes e interfaces de comunicação é um passo em torno de uma sociedade mais justa e igualitária, onde, apesar de circunstâncias diferentes, é dada oportunidade de participação e integração dos diferentes contextos no mesmo espaço. Através da metodologia Investigação-Ação, irei identificar os trabalhos desenvolvidos pela Casa do Conhecimento da Universidade do Minho e pela Rede de Casas do Conhecimento enquanto ponte comunicacional e territorial entre onze municípios em Portugal, chegando a várias realidades e cruzando pessoas de contextos distintos que comunicam ideias, em muito casos distintos, e aproximam-se enquanto sociedade.

The Paço, headquarters of the University of Minho, located precisely in the center of the city of Braga, was, from the 14th century to the 19th century, one of the most important social and religious centers of the city, as it is the seat of the Archdiocese of Braga. It is thus a territorial landmark of the connection between the University of Minho and the community, due to the importance of interaction with society, and the opening of the doors of the Rectory to society is proposed as a demolition of the idea of “institutional building”. This work has been carried out by the different Cultural Units of the Institution inserted in the Paço, such as the Library and the Municipal Archive, in the baroque wing of the building, and by the creation and opening of the Exhibition Gallery and consequent Shop of the Paço, in the east area. More recently, the House of Knowledge of the University of Minho was inserted in the Paço, and aims to give cultural life, making it a space for acquiring knowledge, disseminating ideas and portraits of society. Observing the role of universities and the way they communicate and engage civically is to listen to the way in which they turn to the outside, intervening in it and taking advantage of existing resources to create a better space for dialogue and experience for the community. Involvement starts, in many cases, from the use of physical spaces, such as campuses, libraries, museums that are an added value for everyone: citizens of the municipalities, students, employees, teachers, tourists and researchers, thus becoming spaces of coexistence and social bridges. The Cultural Unit House of Knowledge inserted in the Houses of Knowledge Network has been a communicational and territorial bridge between eleven municipal spaces, reaching various realities and crossing people from different contexts who discuss ideas and come together as a society. The use of these bridges and communication interfaces is a step towards a more just and egalitarian society, where, despite different circumstances, the opportunity for participation and integration of different contexts in the same space is given. Through the Research-Action methodology, I will identify the works developed by the House of Knowledge of the University of Minho and by the Network of Houses of Knowledge as a communicational and territorial bridge between eleven municipalities in Portugal, reaching various realities and crossing people from different contexts that communicate ideas, in many cases distinct and approach as a society.
