Towards the changes in the environmental paradigm and the growing necessity of reducing the carbon emissions, it is necessary to optimize the energy efficiency of the industrial processes in order to use the minimum energy that accomplishes the requirements for the product. In this context, arises the project around which this dissertation is developed. The study case concerns a process of Resistance Spot Welding in which the average value obtained in the destructive tests (tensile tests) is largely superior to the minimum demanded by the client. Being so, it is intended to reduce the over-dimensioned parameters of the process without compromising the product quality. Towards the aim to reduce the referred energy consumption assuring the quality of the product, firstly, there’s the need to stabilize the major variety of results obtained in the tensile tests. In this sense, in an initial approach, it was made a data collection in which were defined all the variables with influence in the welding process and, additionally, the ones that could be manipulated in order to obtain the goal of the project. It was also measured the initial energy consumption (kWh/ part) of the welding machine in its initial conditions. The second phase, associated with de design of experiments, consisted in the manipulation of the welding parameters, according to the planning, in order to get a stabilized process with good results regarding the quality of the product. Finally, there was a verification and validation of the optimized process followed by a second measurement of the energetic consumption of the machine (in kWh/ part) in which it was verified an energetic gain of 12 Wh/part, equivalent to an annual gain of 3 MWh, according to the production previsions to 2022. |
