maior produtor desse material.
Energy renovation of buildings is now a concern at the European level, essential to support the necessary energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. An efficient way to reduce the amount of carbon emissionsin the building sector is to reduce its energy needs. Improving energy efficiency through thermal insulation is one of the most efficient solutions, and on the other hand, the rate of energy renovation of Europe's building stock has been slow - below 1% per year. In addition, Portugal has been pointed out as one of the most vulnerable countries in the European Union in terms of energy poverty. Economically, the costs associated with a renovation are much lower than the costs of demolition and subsequent reconstruction. The envelope of a building represents an important part of it in terms of ensuring a certain level of comfort, and for this reason it is necessary that they are renovated and kept up to date over time. According to Oktavia & Kususma (2020), a correct selection of the material component of the façade of a building is one of the most important decisions that must be made, even at an early stage of its design, because it is this material that will be in contact with the external environment. Globally, more than three hundred million tons of plastic are produced, and Europe is the second largest producer of this material. In Portugal, low recycling rates - only one third of post-consumer plastic waste is recycled - aggravate environmental problems and represent a significant waste of resources. Therefore, it is urgent to reduce plastic waste by integrating it into value chains for reuse and recycling. Faced with these two impending problems, additive manufacturing may be a solution that suits both, as it can contribute to the renovation of buildings using plastic waste. By controlling the internal geometry and different fill combinations, 3D printing enables optimization of thermal conductivity and mechanical performance. Based on the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) method this work analyzes the thermal performance of a set of 3D printed specimens with PET-G thermoplastic. Different structures and fill were tested in the laboratory for energy and mechanical optimization. |
