This pedagogical intervention project, carried out within the Professional Internship of the Master's Degree in Music Teaching at Universidade do Minho, sought to assess the impact of applying mental practice exercises combined with physical practice, in order to help violin students in the resolution of problems related to position shifts and double stops. The project took place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory in Braga and was attended by four students from the ninth grade. Following the action-research methodology, this study sought to explore the familiarization of violin teachers with the theme and its application in practice, as well as to assess the potential of applying combined mental and physical practice strategies in the classroom context. The evaluation of the action was carried out through the collection of a variety of data, including questionnaire surveys, informal interviews, participant observation and evaluation grids completed by teachers external to the project. The results of the questionnaire revealed a great influx of teachers in the use of mental practice combined with physical practice in teaching the violin. The results of the intervention with the four students from the conservatory indicated that the students benefited from the proposed exercises, revealing improvements in both technical and mental preparation issues. It should be noted that both the engaging students and the cooperating teacher reported that the intervention was beneficial and that they will certainly carry out in the future more mental practice exercises combined with physical practice to solve technical problems. |
