Intelligent textiles are increasingly present in our daily lives and are used both for purely aesthetic products and for functional solutions. Within intelligent textiles, thermoelectric textiles are a large part of this work, which aims to develop an article of clothing with thermoelectric properties, through the use of conducting polymers, specifically poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) modified by poly(sulfonated styrene) (PEDOT:PSS). This polymer was used to coat a polyester fabric (PES), activated by an atmospheric plasma surface treatment. For this coating, five layers of PEDOT:PSS were used with 7% by weight of Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), added to increase the electrical conductivity. The voltage ranges necessary to induce temperatures above body temperature were analyzed, starting with 12V, going to 18V and finally to 24V. It was found that for the specific developed heating elements, a voltage of 24V would be needed to perceive a temperature increase through human touch. However, the temperature can be adjustable not only as a function of the applied voltage, but also by the number of layers of PEDOT:PSS. Although this technique requires some adjustments, the results are favorable, allowing the creation of a safe, flexible thermoelectric fabric applied to textile surfaces of different dimensions. This work was developed with the intention of putting this type of technology into practice. Through design and pattern design was developed an aesthetically appealing coat for the consumer with thermoregulating properties, thus combining aesthetics with function. |
