continuaram a sentir dificuldades. Contudo, independentemente disso, os alunos valorizaram
globalmente a estratégia de ensino adotada. Nowadays in the areas of Engineering the need for training in statistical inference, which contributes to the design, analysis and interpretation of studies that may arise in the future professional and social activity of these students, is recognized consensually. This study intends to analyze the learning process of hypothesis tests in a sample of students of the 1st year of the Degree Program in Computer Engineering, enrolled in the curricular unit (CU) of Computational Mathematics. First, the difficulties and errors in hypothesis test content were identified; and next a teaching experience based on the project work methodology was implemented using statistical software, taking into account the difficulties and errors identified before. The study aimed to obtain answers to the following research questions: 1. What are the most frequent errors and difficulties of students in learning hypothesis test? 2. What factors may be at the root of the difficulties of understanding hypothesis testing? 3. Does the use of a teaching method based on a methodology of project work, using technology, help to improve the learning of these concepts? In methodological terms, qualitative and quantitative methods were used in this research (mixed method): in the first moment, study 1, and referring to the first two research questions, a quantitative perspective was adopted; while in the second moment, study 2, and aiming to answer the third question of investigation, a qualitative perspective was adopted. In the first study, 223 students participated and a survey was used as a method of data collection. In the second study 31 students participated, organized in seven small groups, and data was obtained through reports of the project work, a survey on the perceptions of students about the methodology implemented, and the classifications obtained by the students in the CU, more specifically on the content of hypothesis tests. The study showed that students have difficulties in learning hypothesis tests, mainly in expressing their reasoning when writing the reasons for their answers. These difficulties were not overcome by all students who participated in the teaching experience, as some of them continued to have trouble. However, in spite of this, overall, the students valued the teaching strategy adopted. |
