This dissertation aims to develop a system capable of testing and acquiring GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) signals with the goal of autonomous driving. Nowadays, there has been a sharp increase in works targeting the development of automated systems, based on video cameras, radars, INSs (Inertial Navigation Systems), satellite navigations systems and in-vehicle sensors. The majority of these systems are currently used to assist the driver, preventing road accidents and making driving more comfortable. This kind of advanced driver assistance systems is present, for example, in systems such as “adaptive cruise control”, “lane keeping” and “parking assistance”. Some car manufacturers have already included more automated systems, as “Automatic Park assist”, “Integrated Cruise assist” and “Traffic Jam assist”[1]. In a near future, the objective is to achieve a fully automated vehicle, which is able to control itself and make all the decisions in every situation. To accomplish that, all these sensors have to be optimized, ensuring reliability while working together. However, the satellite navigation has serious problems with reliability, particularly in urban environments, tunnels and big obstacles. Furthermore, satellite based systems have also a lack of accuracy due to delays, interferences and multipath of the signal. Therefore, to solve these difficulties, some multi-GNSS solutions have been developed which might combine GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, among others. Due to this evolution, a need of systems capable of testing GNSS receptors have arisen, so it can be possible to characterize them. Thus, the system developed in this dissertation is able to calculate the accuracy, to count the required time to acquire the first position in different start modes and measure the signal intensity needed to acquire the first position and the intensity to maintain the receptor obtaining positions. To do this, it is necessary to generate a known signal through a GNSS simulator, be able to configure the GNSS receptor and calculate the metrics using all the data received from the receptor. The results obtained validate the proposed method and it was possible to characterize an existing GNSS receiver. |
