A queda em Gonçalo M. Tavares: animalescos e short movies

Abstract

A presente investigação tem como propósito analisar a figura da queda em duas das obras de Gonçalo M. Tavares: animalescos e Short Movies. A queda é figura central na obra do escritor e representa uma sociedade imoral, próxima da decadência, que se mostra a caminhar para um lugar de retrocesso e perversidade. Partindo de uma abordagem preliminar sobre a queda no corpus em análise, aprofundar-se-á o estudo da queda como fronteira entre o humano e o desumano. Os volumes em questão apontam para uma queda física e, simultaneamente, moral e social, presente nas imagens de guerra, animalidade, doença, loucura, morte e progresso técnico constantes na obra do escritor. É o mal, portanto, culpa de uma sociedade em queda, conduzindo o homem para o abismo da desumanidade. Este trabalho pretende também estudar os tópicos literários do grotesco, do absurdo e do horror nas obras analisadas, essenciais para o entendimento global do presente corpus. Para além de tudo isto, analisar-se-ão as estratégias narrativas do autor como determinantes para a configuração da queda nos volumes em questão.

The following research aims to analyze the figure of the fall in two of the Gonçalo M. Tavares’ books: animalescos and Short Movies. The fall is the central figure in the writer’s work and represents an immoral society, near to decay, in direction to a place of retreat and perversity. Starting with a preliminary approach on the fall in the books under review, this work will investigate the fall as the border between the human and the inhuman. The volumes in question point to a physical and, also, moral and social fall, present in the images of war, animality, disease, madness, death and technical progress that are persistent in the writer’s books. Therefore, the evil is guilty of a society’s fall, leading the man into the abyss of inhumanity. This work also aims investigate the literary topics of the grotesque, the absurd, and the horror, essential to the overall understanding of the books. In addition to all this, the dissertation pretends analyze the narrative strategies of the author as decisive to the reading of the fall in both volumes.
