a fabricar no Micro Fabrication and Systems Integration Lab. Room 1.
The main goal of this project is to study the methods and techniques necessary to characterize a battery at a solid state. It is intended that this study leads to an improvement in the way how these techniques are applied during the manufacturing of this type of batteries in the Micro Fabrication and Systems Integration Lab. Room 1. A solid state battery is an energy storage device in which all its components are in the solid state. Compared to other existing batteries, the biggest difference is that the electrolyte is in solid form, while in the other batteries it is in a liquid state or gel. This feature brings more advantage in terms of security and longevity of the systems in which this will be inserted because the risk of electrolyte leakage that leads to the damages of circuitry does not exist. Other advantages of a solid state battery are the techniques that are used to perform their manufacture (PVD-physical vapor deposition). Using this type of techniques it is possible to apply batteries in systems which use the same techniques of manufacturing, such as integrated circuits, micro sensors, smart cards among others. A very important feature of this type of batteries is the ability to be charged using energy harvesting techniques. These charging techniques use energy sources, which are present in the environment in which it is located, to charge the batteries. A battery has three main parts: the anode (negative electrode), electrolyte and cathode (positive electrode). The materials that make up each of these three parts in a solid battery are the LiCoO2 for the cathode, LIPON for the electrolyte and lithium for the anode. These materials are deposited using PVD deposition techniques. The LiCoO2 and LIPON are deposited using RF Sputtering technique. In the case of lithium deposition is used the technique of thermal evaporation. To perform the battery analysis a potentiostat Gamry 600 was used, where it underwent tests for battery characterization. |
