Interpretação do património geológico: uma aplicação ao geoparque Arouca

Abstract

O valor inegável de alguns geossítios e as ameaças que podem pôr em causa a continuidade da sua existência, fez surgir a necessidade de implementar medidas que promovam a sua conservação. A criação de geoparques e, principalmente, o reconhecimento do importante papel que o envolvimento do público leigo pode ter em matéria de geoconservação, levou a que os investigadores e académicos pensassem em estratégias que promovessem a sensibilização do grande público para a importância da geoconservação alterando-se, assim, a postura como os investigadores e académicos faziam e divulgavam a ciência. Uma destas estratégias foi a implementação de planos de interpretação que, assumindo-se como um processo de comunicação que se esforça por modelar a linguagem técnica em termos e ideias que todos possam compreender, veio facilitar a tarefa de revelar ao público leigo, os significados e as relações existentes entre o património natural e cultural. A prestação de serviços de interpretação, como meio de difundir o valor da geodiversidade de excelência e incentivar o estabelecimento de práticas e comportamentos que garantam a sua conservação, é em si uma notável ferramenta que favorece o estabelecimento de uma maior sensibilidade dos cidadãos em adotarem uma cultura mais profícua a favor da preservação/conservação do seu património natural/cultural. Para além disto, a interpretação veicula, junto dos cidadãos, a tomada de uma atitude responsável e abre caminhos a uma melhoria nas decisões tomadas em relação à gestão dos espaços naturais com o objetivo de minimizar tanto quanto possível os impactos negativos. Este trabalho faz uma resenha bibliográfica sobre a temática interpretação do património em geral e do geológico em particular. Com base em todo este conhecimento e partindo de um modelo teórico para planear uma estratégia de interpretação, é feita uma proposta de aplicação ao Centro de Interpretação Ambiental das Pedras Parideiras do geoparque Arouca. A utilização deste modelo, pressupõe um conjunto de questões orientadoras (O quê?; Porquê; Quem?; Como/Quando/Onde?; Orçamento? e Avaliação/ Balanço?) de grande utilidade na formatação da estrutura que se pretende para o plano e, ainda, na minimização de desperdícios relativamente aos recursos disponíveis.

The inalienable value of certain geosites, and the threats that can challenge the continuity of their existence, has called up for the need to implement measures that promote their conservation. The creation of geoparks and, mainly, the acknowledgement of the important role that the layman public can have in the matter of geoconservation, have prompted academics and researchers to weave strategies that promote the awareness of the general public when it comes to the importance of geoconservation. This has led to a change of paradigms in the way that researchers and academics do and publicise science. One of these strategies involves the implementation of interpretive action plans that are a communication process which strives to adapt the technical language into a language comprehensible by everyone in order to ease the task of displaying the meanings and relationships existent among natural and cultural heritage to the layman public. The provision of interpretation services as a way to spread the value of remarkable geodiversity and to encourage the establishment of practices and behaviours that ensure its conservation is in itself an effective tool in favouring the citizen’s awareness of the aforementioned matters in a way that they adopt a culture that privileges the preservation/conservation of natural/cultural heritage. Furthermore, interpretation is a mean to, in a common effort with citizens, lead to a responsible attitude and an improvement of the decisions taken towards the management of natural spaces with the aim of minimizing any negative impact as much as possible. This work consists in a detailed bibliographical research on the theme of heritage interpretation, with focus on the geological heritage, followed by an application of this knowledge to the Centro de Interpretação Ambiental das Pedras Parideiras do Geoparque Arouca (Centre for Environmental Interpretation of Pedras Parideiras of the Arouca Geopark). For this effect an Interpretive Planning Model is employed. The usage of this model is based on several questions: “What?”; “Why?”; “Who?”; “How/When/Where?”; “Budget?” and “Evaluation/Balance?” In fact, these elements are essential to provide orientation in the development of the structure that is intended for the plan while minimizing the waste of the available resources.
