O fenómeno imigratório em Portugal: alguns dados recentes e limitações da sua análise no sector da saúde

Abstract

Na década de noventa do século XX Portugal começou a afirmar-se como país de imigração, depois de durante séculos se identificar como país vocacionado para a emigração. Por se tratar de um fenómeno recente ainda sabemos muito pouco acerca dele, desde as reais motivações até ao processo de integração dos elementos imigrantes. No caso particular dos trabalhadores mais qualificados, mormente os do sector da saúde, pouco ou nada é conhecido. O presente artigo deve ser entendido como uma primeira aproximação à análise do fenómeno imigratório neste sector, centrando-se na avaliação das fontes existentes para estudá-lo e na apresentação de alguns dados publicados sobre o mesmo.

In the last decade Portugal received an expressive number of immigrants, after being stated for centuries as a country of important emigration. As it is a recent phenomenon it is comprehensive that we don’t have yet many studies about it, for example, the real motivations and the procedure of integration of the immigrants. In the particular case of the more qualified workers, such as the ones working in the health sector, many few has been studied. This paper is a first analysis of the immigration phenomenon in the health sector, as result of an Investigation Project held in the Investigation Unit of Geography and Planning (N.I.G.P.) of University of Minho. It focuses on the evaluation of sources available to analyse it and on the presentation of some data about immigration.
