Resumo(s): | It was in the year of 1990 that Self-Gift Giving was first studied through an
empirical investigation, conceptualizing the symbolic indulgence this type of
consumerism conveys, its premeditation and the contexts surrounding them, by
Mick and DeMoss.
This investigation aims to investigate this consumer behaviour regarding
self-gift giving, what motivates these types of purchases and the emotions felt in
the process.
This research follows a non-probability sampling method, by convenience,
done in a total of 28 Portuguese participants, age ranging from 22 to 51. This
research is done through a qualitative approach, using the triangulation method,
by collecting data through the use of daily diary methodology and conducting
semi-structured interviews.
The study provides information on self-gift giving experiences, with the
main themes involved being: therapeutical and identity, upbringing and
escaping.
This study concludes that themes such as these are associated with
consumer behaviour and have a meaningful significance in terms the emotions
and motivations regarding self-gift giving. |
