Resumo(s)Following the principles of circular economy and waste reduction, recycling fish skin is an interesting and sustainable practice. However, traditional tanning procedures give rise to many sustainability concerns throughout the process. The most serious of these is chemical pollution as traditional tanning frequently uses harmful materials like chromium salts, which can contaminate soil and water supplies and endanger human health as well as the environment. This work presents a novel approach for the development of leather from sarda sarda fish skin, which is chrome-free, based on vegetable tannins for the tanning process and use fewer chemicals. The procedure applied was able to produce high-quality leather using sustainable products.
