Crisis are part of the life of organizations, and they vary in typology and dimension. Recognizing that, in these moments of fragility, the public and media spotlights can fall more intensely on the institutions targeted, the Press Office is called upon to intervene, establishing a bridge between the organization's internal and external environments, which in this case are the media and their journalists, in order to clarify these situations in the public sphere. In the midst of the sanitary crisis, caused by COVID-19, we were all challenged to find solutions to deal with and respond to an extraordinary situation. The negative effects ended up appearing everywhere, and in the cultural sector, in particular, in addition to the closure of physical spaces, which imposed changes on the activity of these organizations, the pandemic aggravated the labour condition of some employees who ended up denouncing the existence of precariousness in certain cultural institutions. Since this was the context I found when I started my curricular internship in the Press Office area at Serralves Foundation and taking into account all the issues raised by this experience, this internship report deals with the role of the Press Office in crisis communication management in a cultural institution, focusing the analysis on the particular case of Serralves. Among the main results of this research it is clear that the Press Office at Serralves Foundation is a key area in the crisis communication management process, given the role of mediation and strategic counsel that the person responsible for this area plays within the institution. This professional not only has access to institutional information, but also to information that is disseminated in the external environment, which allows him to have a 360º view of the problem. In this way, the responsible for Press Office is able to inform and guide the internal public, so that they act effectively and efficiently, and clarify the external public, not leaving them without information. |
