This thesis focuses on the optimization and improvement of an assembly line, with special attention to material handling and transport systems, to be implemented in a ROQ workshop. Currently, the transport of material is done manually using forklifts. An initial study of the strategy currently used in the company, allowed the definition of the outline of the assembly line, as well as the material handling system to be used, which is a rail guided vehicle (RGV). Next, the RGV chassis was modeled, in order to understand the loads that would act on it and how they would affect the structure and its supports. These were subsequently calculated based on values assumed for the RGV dimensions. Afterwards, the torque and power required to drive the vehicle were calculated, which allowed the definition of an engine and its specifications. Finally, numerical studies were carried out using a computer simulation to predict whether the RGV structure would have sufficient mechanical strength to promote the correct functioning of the assembly line. |
