O presente estudo analisa as
auxiliar (clientes/colegas).
The various spheres of individuals’ life operate mutual influences between them. In spite of the investigation conducted in the domain of work-family/private life connection, little attention has been given to the interconnection between an individual's romantic relationship and work life. The current study analyzes the characteristics of private healthy romantic relationships, and the way they can positively influence the working performance, as a way to help reducing that gap in literature. To accomplish this research fourteen semi structured interviews were carried out among male and female adults involved in a working environment, that were simultaneously in a hetero or homosexual relationship that they viewed as healthy. The study shows that having a happy and healthy romantic life positively influences the performance of the participants in their working place. It promotes well being, thus it contributes for a relaxed environment and consequently, pleasant professional relationships; it strengthens self esteem, increasing the predisposition to face challenges; it reduces stress; increases motivation, efficiency and concentration; it also promotes patience to listen, to talk and to help (clients/coworkers). Those interviewed also refer that, in less fortunate moments - pointing out quarrels - , the performance is negatively affected, as well as their mood. This fact, enhances the coexistence of theories such as Enrichment and Conflict from the Work-Home Resources Model by ten Brummelhuis and Bakker (2012), not invalidating the multiple personal and professional benefits of being in a romantic relationship. The study also shows that, as romantic relationships affect work, the working situation carries “inside home” consequences as well. Finally, it was interesting to realize that relationships are not static, they evolve, and can (and should) be shaped and worked through time, aiming at becoming increasingly functional and healthy. |
