As estruturas verdes
In recent decades, we have witnessed an accelerated development of cities. This development has a consequence: noise. Noise becomes a constant presence in the daily life of the population and has negative consequences for the environment, being therefore a matter of alert. On that account, investigation is needed to solve this problem. Green structures emerge as part of the solution to this issue, since they have noise absorption characteristics, and can be used as a tool to mitigate noise in urban areas. It is precisely on this issue that this dissertation focuses. In addition to gathering information and knowledge learned and investigated so far, the purpose is to understand and determine the acoustic absorption capacity of these structures, predict their benefits, and know how effective they are in reducing city noise. With this, it is expected that these structures will be used more efficiently to improve the quality of the urban environment and the quality of life of the population. The main goal of the work is the study of noise phenomenon and the evaluation of the impact of urban green structures – green walls, in the mitigation of urban noise. Four locations were selected, with and without vegetation, located in the city of Guimarães. Using two sound-level meters, two synchronous measurements of ambient noise were made, out at the four locations and it was analyzed the impact of vegetation on noise reduction and the resulting frequency spectrum. The values obtained indicate that there was a decrease in noise levels, in the order of 1 dBA and 0.5 dBA in each of the evaluated locations. Regarding the frequency spectrum, there was more accentuated reduction in the low frequencies, particularly in the 31.5 Hz and 125 Hz bands in the first place and in the second place there was a greater reduction in the high frequencies 8 Hz. From the outset, the important role that green structures play in the city is evident, since in addition to the various benefits (aesthetics, urban comfort) it is proven that they reduce sound pressure levels, even when they are already implemented, they have not been installed with the aim of mitigating noise. The question that remains is that, if the vegetation were really implemented with the goal of mitigating noise, with suitable characteristics for this purpose, its capabilities would be improved and, therefore, the quality of life in the city would improve. |
