With the increase of world population, the reinforcement of urban infrastructures has also been increasing, resulting in pressure on construction spaces, ecosystems and equipment with urban air pollution and rising temperatures has consequences. The Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon defined by the high temperatures in an urban center compared to its surrounding rural areas. The UHI, which has several origins, can also have several consequences, so it is essential to analyze the causes of this event. This study aims to investigate the causes, effects and mitigation measures of the Urban Heat Island, focusing mainly on the role of green infrastructure, highlighting the benefits of these in reducing temperature and reducing air pollution, taking into account the well- being of the population. With a theoretical approach and analyzing the case studies, the results present a favorable perspective on the adoption of green infrastructure slowering air pollution and reducing temperatures, although it is a mitigation measure that requires monitoring of other measures in order to be fully effective. |
