Set Shift , Cambridge Gambling, Delayed Matching to Sample, Spacial Working Memory e Emotional
Recognition.
tratamento. Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) consists on a problematic pattern of alcohol consumption with clinically significant implications. AUD can impact on the Prefrontal Cortex and, consequently, executive functions (e.g., working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control), as well as anomalies in emotional processing. This work aimed to be the first study in Portugal evaluating subjects diagnosed with AUD (AUDG) and healthy subjects (CG) on executive functioning and facial emotional recognition. For that purpose, 40 abstinent subjects diagnosed with AUD (GAUD) and 25 healthy subjects (GC) performed six tasks of the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery: Stop Signal Task, Intra-Extra Dimensional Set Shift, Cambridge Gambling Task, Delayed Matching to Sample, Spatial Working Memory and Emotional Recognition Task. The results revealed the AUDG to show lower working (p = 0.011) and visuospatial memory (p = 0.008) capacity, lower cognitive flexibility (p = 0.024), and difficulties in the recognition of facial expressions of sadness (p = 0.018) and anger (p = 0.037). These results are consistent with previous studies and highlight, on the one hand, the impact of alcohol on the brain and, on the other hand, the specific cognitive domains that can be targeted by cognitive rehabilitation during treatment for AUD. |
