Marketing plays a fundamental role in the luxury market and conspicuous consumption. Conspicuous consumption is an expression of status and social sovereignty, while marketing has a crucial role in creating and sustaining this label of exclusivity in luxury. This study aims to contribute information on conspicuous consumption in different generations, with a special focus on Generation Z, where there is a lack of information on the subject. The study tests predictors that have been previously tested by other authors and establishes a conceptual model considering social status, social self-esteem, and growth mindset as predictors of conspicuous consumption of luxury products, with age as a moderating element in the relationships between variables. To test the questionnaire, a primary method was used, with a questionnaire consisting of 347 valid responses and a gender distribution close to 50/50. The results demonstrated that social self-esteem and social status are considered predictors of conspicuous consumption of luxury products. However, growth mindset does not have a positive influence on this type of consumption. It was also concluded that age, in the present sample, does not influence the aforementioned relationships. |
