denominado KBDDS – Knowledge and Beliefs about Developmental Dyslexia Scale. A metodologia
The purpose of this work is to analyze the knowledge of pre-school educators and teachers of the 1st cycle of basic education about. Data was collected from 123 professionals (educators and teachers) from five school groups and two private schools in a city in the north of Portugal. The data collection instrument was attended by a structure with three dimensions - general information, Diagnosis and intervention, called KBDDS – Knowledge and Beliefs about Developmental Dyslexia Scale. The methodology used is quantitative in nature, the data being analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. The conclusions allow us to verify that: 1) in general, the results obtained show that pre school educators and teachers who participated in this study have knowledge about dyslexia, in particular about its characteristics, origin and diagnosis and in teaching and supporting students. Despite this, it appears that there are some knowledge gaps and misconceptions that question the knowledge presented; 2) ) As for the different variables analysed, in relation to the variable "academic qualifications”, there were no statistically significant differences with influence on the results of the knowledge of the respondents in any of the three dimensions - general information, diagnosis and intervention - or the overall knowledge demonstrated by the entire KBDDS. As for the variable “experience with students with dyslexia”, there were statistically significant differences between the knowledge demonstrated, even if only in the Intervention dimension and in the KBDDS as a whole. 3) The total KBDDS scale, with 39 items, was evaluated using Cronbach's Alpha measure and returned a good internal consistency (α=0.82). |
