Reading and books have been present in people's lives for thousands of years, and it is through them that the history of humanity is also made. With the emergence and development of digital technologies, new ways of reading and communicating have appeared, emphasizing digital media, namely with the emergence of the e-book. Resulting from the abbreviation of electronic book, it revolutionized the book market, counting the approval of many readers, thus making reading more democratized. Portugal is one of the European countries where the population reads the least, and therefore has low reading rates. It is mainly in the youngest that this weak proportion is felt, and several studies have already attested to this reality. With the arrival of digital books on the market, and the rapid access to the Internet, it is necessary to understand whether today's young people are receptive to such technology, and what their opinions and practices are. The present dissertation aims to understand the reading practices of young portuguese people, both in printed and e-books, and to understand their configuration and dynamism. It is an empirical investigation using a case study, with a mixed approach, in which two different methods of data collection were used: quantitative and qualitative. To this end, a questionnaire survey was designed to be applied to students at Marco de Canaveses Secondary School. |
