Pandemia e informação - O caso português

Abstract

A propagação generalizada do vírus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID 19), com o reconhecimento de uma situação epidemiológica a nível mundial, levou a Organização Mundial de Saúde a declarar, a 30 de janeiro de 2020, uma situação de emergência mundial de saúde pública. E a 11 de março, a mesma Organização Mundial de Saúde declarou uma “situação de pandemia”. Entretanto, a 3 de março, o Conselho de Ministros da República Portuguesa aprovou uma Resolução de “situação de alerta”, a entrar em vigor a 8 de março de 2020, até ao dia 9 de abril. Foi este o começo da crise sanitária pela qual passou Portugal, à semelhança, aliás, do que aconteceu no mundo inteiro, embora com gradações muito diversas, por continente e por país. Demorou cerca de um ano a que o mundo contivesse a pandemia, o que apenas veio a acontecer com a criação de vacinas anti-COVID 19 O nosso objeto é, pois, a pandemia. Mas a nossa questão é a Comunicação da Ciência. Embora me ocupe do modo como a imprensa portuguesa trouxe a pandemia para o espaço público, centro a minha atenção na realidade da informação e da cultura digital, atendendo à nossa época, ou seja, ao nosso tempo e ao que somos nele.

The widespread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19), with the recognition of a worldwide epidemiological situation, led the World Health Organization to declare, on January 30, 2020, a global public health emergency. And on March 11, the same World Health Organization declared a “pandemic situation”. Meanwhile, on March 3, the Council of Ministers of the Portuguese Republic approved an “alert situation” resolution, to come into force on March 8, 2020, until April 9. This was the beginning of the health crisis that Portugal went through, similar, in fact, to what happened all over the world, although with very different gradations, by continent and by country. It took about a year for the world to contain the pandemic, which only happened with the creation of anti-COVID-19 vaccines Our object is therefore the pandemic. But our question is the Communication of Science. Although I focus on how the Portuguese press brought the pandemic into the public space, I focus on the reality of information and digital culture, taking into account our time, that is, our time and what we are in it.
