(Boal, 2009, p. 109). | por |
dc.description.abstract | Gender inequality is imbued by multiple stereotypes that are materialized into gender roles socially created and expected to be embodied in society, being this tendency particularly acute regarding the feminine gender. Seen in this light, the present dissertation proposes to extract the multiple perceptions of young people concerning gender inequality, making use of the Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) for the deconstruction of internalized perceptions related to gender and the construction of a more proactive and empathic social awareness to face this scourge. Furthermore, the advantages of including TO as a fruitful tool for citizenship education are put into perspective. The investigation is guided by qualitative methods, such as participant and non-participant observation and, in tone of methodological defiance, two TO laboratories conducted with two classes of high school students. This investigation, poured into dissertation, did not have the utopian pretension of producing concrete and clear results, however, it sought to amplify the voices of young people and to shed some light on the potential of TO as a methodology for social intervention and prevention in terms of gender inequalities and gender-based violence, as well as a relevant qualitative method for Social Sciences. Nonetheless, it is expected that there’s given an opportunity to the process of (de)construction proposed by Boal since, by itself, “The art created by the whole of citizens-artists is plural since the start (…) The act of preparing it is on itself propaedeutic action that leads to social action. Open work that demands continuity in the real.1” (Boal, 2009, p. 109). | por |
