dc.description.abstract | In recent years, the Eastern Mediterranean has witnessed an intense dispute for new energy resources, namely natural gas, with Turkey competing for it, with several states in the region. However, the policies adopted by the Turkish government led to energy cooperation between its neighbors, such as Cyprus, Greece, Israel and Egypt, highlighting the Turkish isolation in the region and in the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum. The conclusion of agreements with the Libyan government, redesigned the maritime borders of the region, stimulating even more, the competition for new energy sources. Turkish isolation was demonstrated with the support of the Western World, to Turkey's rival countries, transferring its influence to the Eastern Mediterranean. This investigation aims to understand Turkey's position in the region, and how the signing of the Memoradum of Understanding with the Libyan government intensified energy disputes in the region. The dispute for energy sources will be analyzed through Neorealism, mainly with the Turkish adoption of a new Foreign Policy, the Blue Homeland; in the implementation of offensive strategies and in the conclusion of maritime delimitation agreements. According to the international system, the offensive Neorealist perspective is centered on Turkey's decisions to try to achieve the objectives of gaining access to energy sources, energy diversification, energy security and ensuring regional hegemony. This theory makes it possible to understand Turkey's strategies, such as the use of intimidation, manipulation, deployment of military and naval forces in the region. Offensive Neorealism can be confirmed as the dominant theory in the evolution of the Turkish position in the region. | por |
