Populism has gained greater prominence in Western Europe in recent years. In the literature, Portugal was considered an exception with regard to the presence of populism, however, today's reality is no longer the same as the previous one. This dissertation seeks to deepen knowledge under the notion of populism, and the media factor, which are closely related. The main objective of this investigation is to measure the degree of populism of the discourse present in the traditional Portuguese media, through the discourse of its interlocutors, the editorial line of the Público newspaper and the prominence attributed to certain themes. Assuming that narratives affect the daily lives of individuals, and become a matter of discussion, and that according to historical and cultural perspectives, they are maintained over time, and arouse feelings of proximity, difference and belonging, in global or regional contexts, scheduling options are really important. In this sense, an analysis of the media content of Público newspaper in online format was carried out in relation to the presence of the populist party Portuguese Chega. |
