La Orden Tercera de San Francisco de Braga en el Livro Curioso de Miguel Luís de Araújo (siglo XVIII)

Abstract

Nuestro estudio propició un espacio para dar voz a un destacado cronista de la ciudad de Braga. En su «Livro curioso» encontramos información relevante sobre la Orden Tercera de San Francisco en el siglo xviii. De este modo, nuestro análisis se centra en su aportación, recurriendo también a otros cronistas de la ciudad, algunos de ellos hermanos suyos y profundos conocedores de la vida cotidiana. La posición de alguien que vivió dentro y participó en varias de sus manifestaciones espirituales, llevó a Miguel Luís de Araújo a una descripción del quehacer diario, exaltando sus manifestaciones religiosas públicas y también la capacidad de la institución para incrementar su patrimonio. A través de este autor, principalmente, accedimos a las diversas prácticas de la vida cotidiana de la congregación, revelando su implantación en la comunidad de fieles. El análisis se basa principalmente en la obra de este cronista y también en la bibliografía actualizada sobre estas instituciones. El libro de Miguel Luís de Araújo data de la segunda mitad del siglo xviii y fue publicado en 2020. Se trata, por tanto, de una obra inédita de gran importancia para la comprensión y el conocimiento de la Orden Tercera Franciscana de Braga.

Our study created space to give voiceto an outstanding chronicler in the city of Braga. In his Curious Book that we encounter relevant information about the Third Order of Saint Francis in the 18th century. Thus, our analysis centers on his contribution while utilizing other chroniclers from the city, some of whom were his brothers with a deep knowledge of daily life. As an insider who participated in several of its spiritual manifestations, Miguel Luís de Araújo was able to offer a description of the daily life of the institution which praised its public manifestations, but also the institution’s capacity to increase its patrimony. It is mainly through this author that we access various daily practices of this congregation that reveals its implantation in the community of the faithful. The analysis is based principally on this chronicler and the updated bibliography on these institutions. Miguel Luís de Araújo’s book is from the second half of the 18th century and was published in 2020. It is, therefore, an unedited work of great importance for comprehending and understanding the Franciscan Third Order of Braga.
