negativamente, a vida do sujeito.
Foucault (2020) tells us that prisons have existed since the beginning of society and Machado (2016) mentions that society’s evolution has been leading to the implementation of numerous measures that aim to diminish the harmful effects of the passage through the penal system, offering inmates a set of skills that will allow them to take a social responsible life after being released. Nonetheless, there are multiple studies related to the impact that the passage through the penal system leaves on each individual like stigmatization that will limit the person in accessing certain goods and services. The developed investigation aims, essentially, to understand how the passage through confinement and the label of ex-inmate, negatively, conditions the life of an individual. Using a quantitative methodology, this investigation looks to understand the perspectives that the society holds about the goal of imprisoning and the flexibilization measures related to the duration of the confinement and, to understand how prison states a free life through stigmatization processes and labelling asking the participants about the most stigmatized subjects by the labelling processes that an ex-inmate is liable to. Generally speaking we can conclude that the passage through the imprisoning process causes constraints in multiple society subjects, generating insecurity feelings in social life and limiting the access to certain goods and services that reveal essential to the follow up of a responsible life-style and away from recidivism. |
