orientadores, designadamente nos aspetos relativos ao papel da linguagem nas respetivas disciplinas;
permitiram chegar a algumas conclusões.
aprendizagem. The importance of verbal language in the students' success cannot be questioned. It is recognized in several instances, by all educational agents, originating numerous studies that have focused on its different dimensions and domains. The perspective that we developed here focused on the role of language in the teaching/learning process, in Science and History, in intermediate and high school. We aimed at identifying teachers’ beliefs and perceptions on this issue, as well as its implication in their practices, namely in the implementation of strategies that materialize the guidelines contained in the official syllabi. Based on the assumption that the Official Pedagogical Discourse receives successive interpretations until its accomplishment in the school context, and that school textbooks are essential instruments in the determination of teaching practices, despite forming a partial view of the syllabus, we wanted, through our study, to achieve the following objectives: (1) to know how language is integrated in the construction of teaching/learning strategies in Science and History; (2) to assess teachers’ knowledge about the syllabi and other official documents, in what concerns the role of language in their own disciplines; (3) to analyse the role of school textbooks in the definition of teaching practices in language integration. The thesis is organized in two parts: the theoretical framework in which we have privileged the literature focussing on a broad language concept, and a second part, the empirical study, in which we present and analyse the results that allowed us to get some conclusions. In summary, the interpretation of the data indicates that (1) the integration of language in the construction of teaching/learning strategies falls short of the potential that the literature attributes to it; (2) the role of language, which the syllabi recognize and contemplate, is not reflected in the teachers' practices, what shows that they have a superficial knowledge of such documents; (3) the textbooks have a strong influence on the teachers' practices, causing a harmful impact on their opinions and pedagogical decisions, once many indications and orientations of the programmatic texts are concealed, namely in the sphere of language, both for communication purposes as for the creation of supporting learning instruments. |
