Além do
This investigation aimed to: i) construction and validity and reliability evidence of the Reading Fluency Test, with test models vertically and horizontally equalized for students from first to fourth grade; ii) determining the growth curve of reading fluency from second to fourth grade and analysis of the influence of fixed predictors such as gender, the attribution of school social benefits and the maternal educational levels on the growth curve; iii) exploration of the mediating role of reading fluency in the relationship between cognitive-linguistic skills and reading comprehension in second and third grade students. For the construction of the Reading Fluency Test study a sample of 889 students from first to fourth grade was used. To study the evidence of validity based on the test-criterion relationship, considering the relations between the results on the Reading Fluency Test and other reading tests, as well as the association between Reading Fluency Test results and teacher conducted assessment, a subsample of students from first to fourth grade was used (N = 233). Data was collected from a second sample to analyze the evidence of convergent validity and reliability. A total of 105 students from first to fourth grade performed the Reading Fluency Test and an additional measure of fluency. The results related to the first goal showed that equalization converted the gross scores of each test form in equalized scores, placing them in the same metric. The Reading Fluency Test demonstrated adequate reliability and validity indicators. To answer the second goal, a sample of 161 students from second to fourth grade, who were subjected to the Reading Fluency Test, was used. The best-fitting model to the data was the quadratic model, characterized by a deceleration from the inflection point (13.4 months, corresponding to the end of the second grade). The results showed that students who did not have school social benefits and with mothers with higher educational levels had better performances in reading fluency, in contrast to gender, which had no effect. In order to respond to the third goal, a sample of 161 students from second and third grade, who took a battery of tests, to evaluate the decoding, vocabulary, rapid naming and reading comprehension, was used. In addition to the direct effect of reading fluency on reading comprehension, invariant in the second and third grades, its mediating role (total mediation) was also supported, both in the relationship between decoding and reading comprehension, which was significantly greater in second grade than third grade and in the relationship between rapid naming and reading comprehension, which was invariant in both grades. The results obtained are discussed and limitations are presented, as well as guidelines for future investigations. |
