Benguela, favorecem as aprendizagens previstas no currículo?
The professional practices of teachers continue to gain prominence in studies on curriculum development in Education to measure the quality of teaching and, consequently, student proficiency. They are also the reflection of the learning provided in the curriculum. Thus, considering, on the one hand, the weaknesses that students present in the teaching-learning process of Mathematics and, on the other hand, the influence that the conceptions and professional practices of the teachers have on the learnings of the students, we considered timely the formulation of the following research problem: Will the conceptions and professional practices of mathematics teachers of the 9th grade, of the 1st Cycle of Secondary Education, in the municipality of Benguela, favor the appropriation of the learning provided in the curriculum? In order to respond to the research problem, we sought to characterize the conceptions and professional practices of mathematics teachers of the 9th grade, of the 1st Cycle of Secondary Education, in the city of Benguela, Angola, regarding the learning provided in the curriculum, as well as listening to the opinions of the students about the teaching-learning strategies used in class. The adopted methodology is inserted in the interpretative paradigm and was accomplished through the holding of two case studies (teachers of Mathematics of the 9th grade), in different schools and Pedagogic Intervention Zones. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that: (i) teachers favor more curricular learning in the area of knowledge and less of know-how and know-being; (ii) perform more tasks of the type exercises and less of the problem solving; (iii) they pay more attention to the content and less to the student's involvement in the construction of knowledge, in a logic, more traditional orientation than in a contextualized perspective; (iv) the material resources available to them are insufficient for quality professional practice; (v) the summative evaluation is very marked, compared to the diagnostic and formative evaluations. Basically, there is a teacher-centered pedagogical model that puts across the contents of the curriculum. |
