dc.description.abstractHandbook of Advances in Alkali-activated Concrete provides comprehensive information on the material and structural properties and realistic potential for application of alkali-activated concretes. Since these materials can recycle a high waste content, they are especially important because every year the world economy uses more than 100,000 million tons of natural resources. And of that gargantuan consumption, only 8.6% are recycled (circularity gap). The first edition of this book (Handbook of alkali-activated cements, mortars, and concrete) was published in 2014. The structure of the first edition was based on investigations that were mainly made by chemistry and materials science experts. Very few researchers from civil engineering were involved in this field of research at that time, so the first edition had a very limited number of chapters on concrete formulations or concrete performance. In fact, many of the chapters had nothing to do with concrete at all. However, since then many researchers from civil engineering have been studying alkali-activated concrete mixtures, this knowledge now needs to be digested and curated to avoid duplicated investigations. With a brand-new author-base the new edition of this book will provide comprehensive information on the material and structural properties and realistic potential for application of alkali-activated concretes. Divided over three key parts including design, rheology, and curing; properties of alkali-activated concrete; durability and life cycle analysis; the book will be an essential reference resource for academic and industrial researchers, materials scientists, chemists, manufacturers, and civil engineers working with alkali-activated materials and concrete structures.por
