Toponímia do centro Histórico de Guimarães: evolução histórica

Abstract

O presente trabalho é, essencialmente, a base para a criação de um roteiro da cidade de Guimarães, que aborda a evolução da toponímia da mesma, roteiro este, que também aqui se apresenta. Apoiou-se, fundamentalmente, na consulta e análise bibliográfica. A recolha de informações relevantes e que determinaram posteriormente o caminho investigativo a seguir, começa por ser feita em âmbito de estágio curricular, realizado na Câmara Municipal de Guimarães, na Divisão de Centro Histórico. Analisando a oferta turística existente no município, verifica-se uma lacuna no acesso a este tipo de informação bem como no seu aproveitamento enquanto potenciador do turismo histórico e cultural, que tão importante é para a cidade de Guimarães. Do mesmo modo, pretende-se que os percursos turísticos possam ser alargados para incluir outras ruas, com base na sua curiosa história toponímica, assim como, tentar motivar os visitantes da cidade a visitas menos apressadas, precisamente porque deixarão de restringir-se a um percurso pré-definido com informações quase "telegráficas" sobre as praças, respetivas edificações e alguns eventos históricos muito sucintos. Isto parece então trazer notórios benefícios para toda a economia local. Assim, o mesmo consiste numa abordagem da evolução toponímica da cidade (enquadrada, sempre que possível, numa contextualização sucinta do desenvolvimento urbano de Guimarães), nomeadamente do Centro Histórico e a Zona Especial de Proteção (ZEP), permitindo que a oferta turística existente passe a conter mais dados históricos ou sobre o património intangível e as tradições culturais da cidade.

The present work is the basis for the creation of an itinerary guide, addressing the evolution of the toponymy of the city of Guimarães, since the very first mentions found. It was essentially based on consulting the most diverse documentation, from the Municipal Archive, City Council Meeting minutes, literary works and historical articles. It must be said that, the early collection of relevant information which, subsequently, determined the investigative path to follow, began with the curricular internship carried out at the Guimarães City Hall. Through a critical analyzis to the current tourist offer, one can see that this kind of information is mostly overlooked (which should be considered a gap) hence, it is not being used to enhance the historical and cultural tourism that is, so crucial to the city of Guimarães. Likewise, it is intended that touristic routes can be extended to include other streets, based on their curious toponymic history as well as trying to motivate the city visitors to slower paced visits, precisely because they will no longer be restricted to a pre-defined route with almost "telegraphic" information about the squares, their building and some very succinct historical events. This change will have remarkable benefits for the entire local economy. Thus, it consists of an approach to the toponymic evolution of the city (framed, whenever possible, in a brief contextualization of the urban development of Guimarães), namely of the Special Zone of Protection, allowing the existing tourism to provide more data on the history and cultural traditions of the city.
