aprender a aprender através do uso de atividades multissensoriais e de material autocorretivo;
Within the scope of the Master’s Degree in English Language Teaching in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, this report regarding the supervised teaching practicum, aims to describe and establish a basis for the intervention project “Contributions of the Montessori Method for Teaching English to Children”. Due to the fact that the afore mentioned Master’s Degree is based upon an action research methodology, this practicum was guided by the development of a pedagogical intervention project. The project was developed in a Primary school. It was directed towards a fourth grade class, and its main goals were as follows: understanding attitudes and perceptions pertaining to how the children perceive the English language learning experience; promoting the competences of autonomy, creativity and self-instruction using stories; promoting the competence of learning to learn by using multisensorial activities and self-correcting material; promoting children’s participation in their own learning process by using cooperative games and evaluating the project’s impact on the overall learning process. Questionnaires were employed for the purpose of data collection: an initial questionnaire was applied, followed by a self-regulatory questionnaire at the end of each didactic sequence and; lastly, a final drawing was requested of the children. In addition, every lesson had a concluding moment where students were asked to provide feedback on the lesson itself and on the content covered. Several assignments were also collected and analyzed for relevant data. The results showed that, through the application of the project activities – and without using an English teaching textbook – it is possible to teach pre-programmed contents. At the same time, the children feel happy, motivated and are able to retain the concepts, all the while taking a more active role in their learning process. Despite some of the limitations felt, the main goals of the project were globally achieved. |
