comparar as concepções apresentadas pelas diferentes amostras quer intra-grupos
(alunos do Ensino Básico; alunos universitários; professores em serviço), quer intergrupos
(alunos do Ensino Básico, estudantes universitários e professores em serviço).
The aim of this study named Conceptions on digestion/excretion in pupils, in-service and pre-service teachers of Basic Education, is: (i) to identify conceptions on the digestion/excretion presented by children and adults: (a) pupils of Basic Education (1st cycle (5/6 – 9/10 years old), 2nd cycle (10/11 – 11/12) and 3rd cycle (12/13 – 4/15); (b) university students (future teachers of the three cycles of Basic Education) and (c) inservice teachers of the three cycles of Basic Education; (ii) to compare the conceptions presented by the different samples, intra-groups (pupils of Basic Education; university students; in-service teachers), and inter-groups (university pupils of Basic Education, university students and in-service teachers). In general, the conceptions on the digestion/excretion identified in this work are similar to the ones identified in some preliminary studies carried out by our research team: essentially related to the representation of the digestive tube: intestinal “confusion” and to the interrelation established between the different systems involved in this process (digestive, circulatory and urinary systems), especially, the anatomic continuity digestive-urinary and the absence of functional relation between the systems. These conceptions, in a general way, are common to pupils of Basic Education, university students, and in-service Basic Education teachers. This means that all the situations of formal education (throughout all the school levels) related to the subject in question, are not enough to lead to an effective conceptual change. We highlight the digestion-excretion continuity representation, which disappear among in-service teachers of 2nd and 3rd cycles of the Basic Education. Therefore, in-service practice seems to be efficient in what concerns the deconstruction of this conception. Underlying these conceptions we have some learning obstacles, for example the epistemological and didactical ones. Some of these obstacles, mainly the didactical ones, might be easily overcame if there is a special attention, for instance, in the choice of the images that will be explored in the classroom. However, to overcome these learning obstacles in-service teachers must bee aware of this problem, looking for identifying and working not only pupils conceptions but also their own conceptions. In this context, it is important to invest in the teachers’ training, in order to prepare them for this reality. |
