Empathy has gained a special prominence as an important element of daily interactions. Today the empathy construct is seen as a multidimensional phenomenon, implying the experience of the emotions of the other (affective empathy), and the understanding of these emotions (cognitive empathy). Studies reveal different results regarding the influence of empathy on job satisfaction. Job satisfaction consists of the set of feelings toward the position occupied in the workplace. The present study aims to understand if self-perceived empathy and empathic performance influence job satisfaction and if there is a distinction in this relationship between affective empathy and cognitive empathy in a business context. Data were collected online at various organizations in the business sector. The results obtained do not allow us to prove the existence of a significant relationship between empathy and job satisfaction, between the two dimensions of empathy and satisfaction in the work analyzed as a whole. However, the results suggest the existence of positive and significant relationships between the relational facets of job satisfaction and cognitive empathy as well as between the relational facets of job satisfaction and empathic performance for negative valence emotional expressions. |
