Práticas mediáticas de crianças e jovens em instituições de acolhimento

Abstract

Vivemos numa era digital. As crianças e jovens vivem hoje as suas vidas numa relação forte com os media, sendo que os aparelhos móveis são uma espécie de extensão da sua vida. Sendo esta uma realidade dos dias que correm, torna-se importante compreender se as crianças que se encontram em instituições de acolhimento têm as mesmas oportunidades em termos de acessos e uso dos mesmos. São vários os estudos relativos aos usos que as crianças e jovens fazem dos media, mas nenhum se debruça sobre as crianças que se encontram acolhidas em instituições. A investigação realizada procurou ouvir, conhecer e refletir sobre as perspetivas de quem vivencia de perto a institucionalização, mais concretamente as crianças e jovens com idades compreendidas entre os seis e os dezoito anos, bem como profissionais na área das ciências sociais, que exercem a sua atividade no domínio da proteção de crianças e jovens em perigo. Este estudo procurou compreender, a partir da perspetiva dos diferentes profissionais (diretores técnicos, assistentes sociais, psicólogos, sociólogos e educadores sociais) e das crianças e jovens acolhidos em instituições no distrito de Braga, a importância da relação que estes têm com os media e qual o impacto nas suas vidas. Deu-se, assim, particular ênfase aos meios que têm disponíveis nas suas instituições, quais as práticas mediáticas, o tipo de mediação efetuado em relação aos media e a sua relação com os media antes de serem acolhidos nas respetivas instituições. Os principais resultados indicam que as crianças e jovens institucionalizados têm as mesmas oportunidades que as demais em relação aos media. Existe uma preocupação por parte dos técnicos que trabalham junto destas crianças e jovens em dar-lhes as mesmas ou até mais oportunidades em relação às crianças e jovens no geral. Contudo, não se pode ignorar o facto de estarem numa instituição, nem evitar que haja regras e supervisão no acesso e uso que estas fazem dos media.

We live in a digital era. Children and teenagers live their lives with a strong relationship with the media and mobile devices are a kind of extension of their life. Being this a reality of the world today, it is important to understand if the foster care children have the same opportunities in terms of access and use of the media. There are several studies about the use of media by children and teenagers, but none of them apply to foster care children and teenagers. The research carried out sought to hear, to know and to reflect about the perspectives of those who experience the institutionalization, more specifically, children and teenagers, with ages between six and eighteen years, as well as professionals in the field of social sciences, that carry out their activity in the field of protection of children and teenager in risk. This study aimed to understand, through the perspective of the different professionals (technical directors, social workers, psychologists, sociologists and social educators) and children and teenagers institutionalized in Braga district, the importance of the relationship that children and teenagers have with the media and what it represents in their lives, giving particular emphasis to the resources available in its institutions, the media practices, the type of mediation made in relation to the media and their relationship with the media before being institutionalized. The main results indicate that the institutionalized children and teenagers have the same opportunities that the others relatively to the media. There is a concern by the technicians who work closely to them to make sure that this relation with mobile devices and media remains intact. However, it is not possible to ignore the fact that they are in an institution, so there must be rules and supervision on the access and use they make to them.
