Atitudes face à reclusão em técnicos dos serviços prisionais e reinserção

Abstract

Os técnicos dos Serviços Prisionais e Reinserção, especificamente, os Técnicos Superiores de Reeducação e os Técnicos Superiores de Reinserção Social, assumem um papel de relevo no processo de reabilitação e reinserção dos indivíduos recluídos. Contudo, o conhecimento acerca destes técnicos não se encontra muito desenvolvido. Assim, sabendo que as atitudes destes profissionais influenciam a sua interação com a população reclusa (Melvin, Gramling & Gardner, 1985), o presente estudo procurou conhecer as suas atitudes em relação à reclusão. Para tal, foi aplicada a Escala de Atitudes em Relação à Reclusão a 64 técnicos de estabelecimentos prisionais e equipas de reinserção social de todo o país. Os resultados manifestaram uma correlação positiva entre a idade e as atitudes em relação à reclusão. No entanto, ao contrário do esperado, o sexo e a área de formação demonstraram não ter uma influência significativa nas atitudes acerca da reclusão. Estes resultados foram interpretados em função do estado da arte e de possíveis implicações práticas.

The Prison and Probation officers take a leadership role on the social rehabilitation process of inmates. Nevertheless, the knowledge on these officers is still scarce. Therefore, knowing that the professionals’ attitude influences their interaction with the imprisoned population (Melvin, Gramling & Gardner, 1985), this study tried to know about the professionals’ attitudes toward inmates. To this end the Attitudes Toward Prisoners scale was used with 64 officers of detention facilities and social rehabilitation teams from all around Portugal. The results presented a positive correlation between the age and the attitudes toward inmates. However, in contrast with the expectation, the gender and the field of expertise did not present any significant influence on the attitudes toward incarceration. These results were interpreted according to the literature and to possible practical implications.
