This study aimed to explore the Implicit Learning mechanisms in pre-school children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) through an Artificial Grammar Learning task. The results showed that in the learning phase, children with SLI and DLN presented a similar behavior, however, when the behavior of the two groups per block was analyzed, we observed that there was an improvement of the DLN group from block 1 to block 2. Regarding the test phase, the performance of DLN did not differ from that expected against chance, however the performance of SLI was significantly lower than expected against chance. It was also observed that the performance of the SLI group was statistically lower than that of the children with DLN, which may indicate that the deficits of these children at language level are related to the fact that they are not able to extract the structural regularities present in the linguistic input that comes to them, to create rules and to generalize such rules to other contexts. |
