Violência doméstica contra homens: perceções das forças de segurança

Abstract

A violência doméstica é um fenómeno preocupante a nível nacional e internacional. Nesses cenários, as forças de segurança são, muitas vezes, chamadas a intervir. Apesar do crescente mediatismo e investigação associados a esta temática, quando as vítimas são homens o cenário muda de figura. O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender as perceções das forças de segurança relativamente à violência doméstica contra os homens, exercida em relações heterossexuais. Razões para a agressão, motivos para permanecer na relação abusiva, obstáculos à denúncia e aspetos sociais associados aos homens vítimas (e.g., é mais fácil o homem deixar a relação) foram as variáveis estudadas. Foi difundido um inventário online junto dos profissionais da Guarda Nacional Republicana e Polícia de Segurança Pública com um conjunto de afirmações sobre esta temática. Dos 1653 participantes, a generalidade revelou perceções ajustadas sobre este fenómeno ao nível das dimensões estudadas. Contudo, a ambiguidade encontrada nas respostas é preocupante. Os participantes mais novos, do sexo feminino e com níveis de escolaridade superiores apresentaram, no geral, perceções mais ajustadas à realidade da violência doméstica contra os homens. Os resultados são discutidos e são referidas implicações para a prática junto desta população.

Domestic violence is a concerning phenomenon in both national and international level. In these scenarios, police forces are often called upon to intervene. Despite the growing press and investigation associated to this thematic, when the victims are men the scene changes. The aim of this study was to understand the perceptions of the police forces towards domestic violence against men, in heterosexual relationships. Reasons to aggression, motives to stay in the abusive relationship, obstacles to report and social issues associated with male victims (eg, it is easier for a men to leave a relationship) were the studied variables. An online inventory was distributed to professionals of the Guarda Nacional Republicana and Polícia de Segurança Pública with a set of statements on this subject. Of the 1653 participants, the majority revealed adjusted perceptions of this phenomenon, based on the studied dimensions. However, the ambiguity found in the responses is disturbing. Younger female participants, with higher education levels exhibit more adjusted perceptions to the reality of domestic violence against men, generally. The results are discussed and implications to good practice within this population are given.
