Homens vítimas de violência doméstica e homicídio conjugal: perceções das polícias

Abstract

A violência doméstica e o homicídio conjugal são fenómenos preocupantes, como demonstram os números internacionais e nacionais. As forças de segurança são, muitas vezes, chamadas a intervir nesses cenários, tendo a sua intervenção vindo a alterar-se nos últimos anos. Essas realidades não se circunscrevem às mulheres, podendo os homens também ser vítimas desses crimes. Assim, torna-se importante reconhecer a existência de todas as vítimas, independentemente do sexo destas ou do/a agressor/a. O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender as perceções das forças de segurança portuguesas relativamente à violência doméstica e ao homicídio conjugal contra os homens, em relações heterossexuais. Foi difundido um inventário online junto dos profissionais da Guarda Nacional Republicana e Polícia de Segurança Pública com um conjunto de afirmações sobre estas temáticas. A maioria dos participantes revelou perceções ajustadas sobre a violência doméstica e o homicídio conjugal contra os homens, ainda que tenham revelado perceções ambíguas quando se considera o homem vítima e a mulher agressora. Os participantes mais novos, do sexo feminino e com níveis de escolaridade superiores apresentaram perceções mais ajustadas sobre violência doméstica e homicídio conjugal comparativamente aos restantes participantes. Os resultados são discutidos e são referidas implicações para a prática junto desta população.

Domestic violence and spousal homicide are worrying realities, like the international and national statistics demonstrates. Police officers are almost always called upon to intervene in these situations, and its intervention has been changing in recent years. However, these realities are not limited to women, and men can also be victims of these crimes. Thus, it is important to recognize the existence of all victims, regardless of the sex of actors. The aim of this study was to understand the perceptions of portuguese security forces in relation to domestic violence and spousal homicide against men in heterosexual relationships. An online inventory was widespread by the professionals of the Guarda Nacional Republicana and the Polícia de Segurança Pública with questions about their socio-demographic characteristics and their experience, and a set of statements about these matters. Most of the participants revealed adjusted perceptions about domestic violence and spousal homicide against men, although they had revealed ambiguous perceptions when considering the male victim and female aggressor. The female participants, the younger ones and participants with higher education levels had more adjusted perceptions about domestic violence and spousal homicide compared to other participants. The results and the implications for practice in this population are discussed.
