dc.description.abstract | Grazing, characterized by a repetitive eating pattern, has receiveid increased attention among bariatric surgery patients. The primordial goal of this study was to validate the Repetitive Eating Questionnaire (Rep(eat)-Q) in a sample of bariatric surgery patients. We focused on the psychometric properties of the instrument, namely its factorial composition, internal consistency, and convergent and divergent validities. For this purpose, we used a sample of 242 participants, ranging from 19 to 65 years old. A principal components analysis was conducted to determine the factorial structure of the instrument. A solution of two correlated components was obtained for Rep(eat)-Q, representing two distinct types of grazing: compulsive and non-compulsive. Both the Rep(eat)-Q components, and the global score of the instrument revealed good internal consistency properties. The global score of Rep(eat)-Q revealed strong associations with the uncontrolled eating (r=.743) and emotional eating (r=.672) subscales of the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire and a moderate association with the Eating Disorders Questionnaire (r=.434), evidencing a good convergent validity. Rep(eat)-Q displayed modest associations with the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (r=.347), as well as with the Impulsivity Behavior Scale (r=- .405). | por |
