Water is a natural resource, essential for the existence of life on Earth, which has been used in an exhaustive and disorganized way. Rainwater harvesting systems, presents many economic and environmental advantages, and also because of the simplicity of its implementation is a measure with some potential to reduce the use of potable water, on some uses where water quality can be lower. This technique consists of collecting the rainwater falling on various surfaces and then directing them to storage tanks. Although, these systems exists for a long time, they necessitate an optimization in their design and operation. This optimization, discussed in this dissertation, will be at the operating level of the reservoir, with the goal of an active renewal of water within. This renewal is carried through by a controlled pumping of water that is inside of the reservoir to the outside of it, so is achieved an additional volume of space that can be occupied by the influx of fresh water to the system if there is rainfall in the next few hours or the next few days. It will be constructed with the help of a commercial software, Sobek, a hydraulic model in the horizontal plane of a rainwater harvesting systems. Mathematical modeling is an efficient methodology for the analysis and study a wide variety of engineering problems. In the specific case of hydraulic problems involving free surface flows, and hydraulic structures, is undoubtedly a huge potential methodology for simulation of flow in the design phase and for the analysis of the management techniques and control of those structures. With the implementation of the hydraulic model, built on Sobek it will be simulated different cases involving techniques of control with pumping systems, that pursuit a more optimal operation of the rainwater harvesting systems. |
