A comunidade científica centra atualmente a
A utilização
Residential and office buildings are responsible for a great amount of the world’s energy consumption. The increase in the comfort levels of these buildings has been granted mainly using of non-renewable energies sources, which have a great impact in the environment and concerns the society, the scientific community is focusing its research in the search for innovative construction solutions and materials, to the same comfort levels while contributing towards the reduction of the energy consumption. Phase change materials (PCM) have the capacity to store thermal energy as latent heat. The use of these materials enables the control of temperature in buildings while maintaining comfort levels, reducing the need to use HVAC systems that, in general, use energies sources, derived from fossil fuels. The aim of this dissertation is to study the energetic impact that results from the incorporation of PCM in the construction of a single house family in different areas in Portugal (Bragança, Porto and Évora). First, has been identified the type and quantity of PCM that is most suitable for the Portuguese climate and then has been optimized the energy gains that result from the usage of passive energy. In order to fulfill this objective, the methodology consisted on a simulation of the inclusion of PCM in a simple wall, using a simulation software for thermal behavior in buildings – EnergyPlus. A differentiated result was obtained, for two kinds and two quantities of PCM, which was then analyzed and used for defining the energetic savings associated with the usage and quantity of a type of PCM. The conclusions allow an assessment of the incorporation of PCM in situations similar to the ones in this study. |
