As campanhas
Every year, millions of people around the world are victims of domestic violence. Only in Portugal, in 2013, national security forces GNR and PSP registered 27,318 occurrences, representing an average, of 2276 cases per month, 75 per day and three per hour (DGAI, 2013). Given these numbers, it is fundamental to implement an intervention on different levels to fight this social problem. Social Marketing can contribute to a more efficient result against this specific crime, since this area of Marketing aims to contribute to changing undesirable behaviors within a society. Therefore, this research has as its main purpose: analyze interventions against domestic violence that take place in Portugal and see if there is a way for it to become more effective regarding social marketing. To achieve these goals and obtain the answers to the research questions, two types of study were carried out. The qualitative research consisted of, semi-structured interviews with 15 victims and former victims of domestic violence, as well as, with two people directly related to the preparation and organisation of communication campaigns. In the quantitative research, a questionnaire to the public in general was used resulting in 342 responses. The results of empirical research show that both victims and former victims of domestic violence and society in general consider that the communication campaigns are not effective, in order to achieve the intended goals. Campaigns that are targeted at victims do not encourage them to action because they do not transmit positive feelings or present solutions. And society at large, although aware of this social scourge, does not know how to help because the campaigns do not indicate how to act in case of domestic violence. This can be attributed to the fact that campaigns do not follow an integrated social marketing strategy. It was also found that professionals are also not fully prepared to assist a victim of this crime. This study shows that there is much work to be done in the fight against domestic violence. It is crucial to identify how to act and how to help a victim of this social scourge, knowing that the Social Marketing can play an important role in combating this social problem. |
