A presença
A análise
as três espécies analisadas.
categorias alimentares.
Crustaceans have a very significant role in the structure of coastal ecosystem’s food web. Portunus spinimanus Latreille, 1819 and Callinectes larvatus Ordway, 1863 are native species with huge economic importance in Baía de Todos os Santos. Currently, they coexist with the invasive specie Charybdis hellerii Milne Edwards, 1867. The presence of invasive species in biologic communities can be a threat to local biodiversity, as well as to the ecosystem functioning. Still, the impact of C. hellerii in native communities is poorly known. This study aims to evaluate the competition of food resources between this tree species of crabs in Penha beach. We conducted seasonal collections, by diving method, between October/2012 and July/2013. A total of 555 specimens were collected, corresponding 208 to Portunus spinimanus (91 males and 117 females), 194 to Charybdis hellerii (150 males and 44 females) and 153 to Callinectes larvatus (106 males and 47 females), with sexual proportion different to the expected 1:1. P. spinimanus showed a total of length range of 18.60 to 69.03 mm, with major frequency of individuals ranging between 42 and 44 mm length. C. larvatus ranged from 23.38 to 52.56 mm, with the majority of individuals showing 36 to 38 mm of length. Finally de length of C. hellerii ranged from 25.07 to 55.71 mm, with prevalence of individuals of 38 and 40 mm. The species showed a high frequency of empty stomachs, P. spinimanus (35%), C. larvatus (44%), and C. hellerii (59%). In this study, we executed methods of diet analyze, percentages points (MP), occurrence (FO) and feed importance (IAi). Despite this species show sexual dimorphism, with males significantly (p<0,05) bigger than females, there wasn’t difference (p>0,05) in the consumption on the principals items between sexes. The analyze of the stomachic content revealed a very varied diet, with great importance (IAi) to brachyurans, organic substances with no identification (MONI), sediment and bivalve, to the three species analyzed here. Comparing the seasonal variation of feed behavior of each specie, it was noticed significantly difference (p<0,0002) to P. spinimanus and C. larvatus only in brachyurans consumption, which had a reduced availability in the environment during the Winter. C. hellerii showed seasonal differences only in MONI consumption between Spring (IAi=44%) and Winter (IAi=87%), being the Winter much more important in this category. When comparing the variation of feed behavior between the species it wasn’t possible to identify significantly differences related with the importance of feed categories, except to the major consumption (p<0,0002) of MONI in C. hellerii (AIa=67%) and the minor in C. larvatus (IAi=18%). The species analyzed in this study revealed an opportunist feed behavior since they feed on a vast range of recourses according to availability in the environment. Indexes of width and food niche overlap indicated that P. spinimanus have a major food spectrum than C. larvatus and C. hellerii, with great niche overlap between these species, with special emphasis to the great competition between native species. |
